Deputy Minister Martin Smolek met with his Georgian to discuss visas

Deputy Minister Martin Smolek met with his Georgian counterpart Ms. Khatuna Totladze, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, on November 29, 2022. The aim of the meeting was to discuss consular and visa matters of common interest and to establish elements of best practice for providing visa services. The topics covered issuance of visas to Georgian students studying at Czech universities or recruitment of Georgian employees for the Czech job market. Georgia has recently been added to the Qualified Worker Program, one of the programs of targeted economic migration designed to support domestic industry by recruiting employees from abroad.
The Czech and Georgian parties discussed especially issuance of visas to Georgian students for their long-term or exchange studies at Czech universities. This was identified by the Georgian side as the topic of primary concern, in the context of previously voiced dissatisfaction of the Georgian side with the length and complexity of the procedure.
The Deputy Minister Smolek draw the attention of the Georgian side to the fact that based on available statistics, absolute majority of visa applications is processed in due time, resulting in timely issuance of visas. Only individual cases point to the contrary. The Georgian side was asked for its cooperation in submitting visa applications at the Embassy in Tbilisi sufficiently in advance.
