On 19 October 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský awarded the Gratias Agit Prize 2023 for spreading the good name of the Czech Republic abroad to eight individuals and one organisation.

The awards were received by:

Mr. Stanislav Brouček (Czech Republic) - researcher at the Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Department of Mobility and Migration

Mr. Alessandro Catalano (Italy) - Bohemist, university teacher, editor and translator

Ms. Eva Erbenová (Israel) - writer, Holocaust survivor

Ms. Sabine Gruša (Germany) - founder of the association "German Friends and Supporters of the Olga Havel Foundation"

Mr. David Harris (USA) - CEO of the American Jewish Committee from 1990 to 2022 (he will receive the award at the Czech Embassy in Washington)

Mr. Jan Marek (UK) - cardiologist

Mr. Tomáš Řízek (Taiwan) - illustrator, graphic designer, painter and publisher

Ms. Jana Sommerlad (UK) - editor

The prize was also presented to Joseph Balaz, who represented the Bohemian Benevolent & Literary Association (USA), by the Minister for European Affairs Martin Dvořák.

"It was a great honour for me to present the Gratias Agit Award. The awardees have succeeded in spreading the good name of the Czech Republic in various fields - be it culture, science, compatriot or humanitarian activities. Among them are personalities who introduce the world to our history, translate the works of Czech authors or excel in medicine. They try to make the world know about the Czech Republic in the best possible sense," said Minister Lipavský on the occasion of the award ceremony.

Since 1997, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been awarding the Gratias Agit prize to important personalities and organisations that have contributed to spreading the good name of the Czech Republic abroad and that deepen interest in our country and help to create a favourable image of the Czech Republic in the world.

This year's Gratias Agit Awards have a new form of a glass prism with a cut surface, which symbolises the seal. The authors of the artwork are designers Klára Janypková and Tomáš Kučera.
