OECD Commends Czech Efforts in Development Cooperation

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released Peer Review on the Czechia´s development cooperation for the year 2023. In accordance with the regular evaluation cycle of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC), Czechia underwent a comprehensive assessment aimed at enhancing the quality and impact of its contribution to international development.
The review states that Czechia has maintained its steady commitments to official development assistance (ODA), consistently allocating 0.14% of its gross national income (GNI) since 2016. In 2022, there was a significant increase to 0.36%, reflecting additional expenditures associated with the support of Ukrainian refugees.
The OECD recognizes Czechia´s continual support for democratic transitions and the protection of human rights worldwide. The strategic plan for Czech development cooperation for the period of 2018 to 2030 was particularly commended for its predictability and adaptability, which are essential for effective development cooperation.
The report offers a series of recommendations for Czech development cooperation to further approximate the standards of advanced donors. These include Czechia´s long-standing commitment to allocate 0.33% of GNI to ODA, strengthening institutional structures, advancing a unified approach to addressing poverty and inequality, and building strong partnerships with civil society organizations and the private sector.
