Family Visa application requirements

Requirements for the "family" type of the long-term visa

Processing time

All long-term visas have to be approved by the Czech Ministry of Interior. The processing time for the family/dependant visa lasts from 90 to 120 days from the date of the application. Therefore, the Embassy recommends that applicants submit their applications on time.

Kindly note that the Embassy may not to speed up the process or follow up on it as it is handled by the authorities in the Czech Republic.

Details about the decision making procedure

Required documents

1. valid travel document (recognized by the Czech Republic, not older than 10 years, containing at least 2 free pages, its validity must be at least 3 months longer than the validity of the long-term visa),

2. 3 photographs (3,5 x 4,5 cm, light background, no head covering except for religious reasons),

3. duly completed and signed long-term visa application form (PDF, 527 KB)

4. documentary evidence of the family relationship,

5. parental consent or consent of any other statutory representatives or guardians with the residence of a child in the Czech Republic; parental consent, consent other statutory representative or guardian is not required if it is parent, statutory representative or guardian who submitted the application for child or with whom the child together resides in the Czech Republic, and if the foreigner demonstrates that he/she is unable to submit this agreement due to reasons beyond his/her control or if the child resides in the Czech Republic pursuant long-term visa or long-term resident permit for other purpose;

6. proof of sufficient funds - a document proving that the aggregate monthly household income of the family after its reunification will not be lower than the sum of:

·         the amount of the subsistence minimums of all family members and

·         the highest amount of normative costs for housing, which the foreign national can credibly prove as an amount of reasonably justified costs for the accommodation of the family,

·         a foreigner is on request obliged to submit the declaration of release obligation of secrecy of the Tax Office, in full range of data, in purpose of verification aggregate monthly income of the family; if a foreigner submitted the document to the request of income of the family member, he/she is on request also obliged to submit its declaration of release obligation of secrecy.

8. foreign national who has resided as a family member of a holder of an EU Blue Card in another EU Member State is further obliged to submit a document or a residence permit that was granted to him/her as a family member of a holder of an EU Blue Card by another EU Member State,

9. police clearance certificate (provided in original authenticated by the respective Ministry of Foreign Affairs - for details see Remarks below):

·         issued by the applicant's home country (i.e. the country which passport the applicant holds),

·         issued by the state(s) in which the applicant has had a continuous residence for over 6 months in the last 3 years, if relevant. The requirement to submit the police clearance is based on the Act No. 326/1999, Coll., on the Residence of Foreigners in the Czech Republic, par. 31/3/a

The supporting documents for the application shall not be older than 180 days except for the travel document, birth certificate, marriage certificate and the photograph of the appplicant if it corresponds to his/her actual appearance.

 

Important Remarks:

·         the application has to be submitted by the applicant in person at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Nairobi (by prior appointment only),

·         the application fee (approx. 100 EUR, depending on the current exchange rate) has to be paid in EUR cash or by credit / debit card; consular fees (e.g. authentication, verification of translation, etc.) have to be paid in KSh cash or by credit / debit card,

·         all original letters issued by the foreign government authorities (i. e. police clearance, birth/marriage certificate, etc.) have to be authenticated by the respective Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Kindly note that the authentication stamp has to be placed on the original document

·         all foreign documents have to be translated into Czech. The Embassy can verify the translation only but it will not provide the actual translation.

·         all documents have to be submitted in original

·         the decisions about the long-term visa applications (family reunification type) are taken by the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic within 90 to 120 days. During this period the applicant may be called in for an interview at the Embassy, if requested by the respective Czech authorities.

In case the visa is granted by the Ministry of Interior, a medical insurance covering the territory of the Czech Republic has to be arranged and presented to the Embassy before the visa is stamped into the passport. Detailed information on the required insurance policy will be sent to each successful visa applicant together with the notification of the approval of the visa. Since August 2021, the Foreigners' Comprehensive Medical Insurance  from the Pojistovna VZP insurance company is required.
