An application for extending the validity of a residence card, residence permit, permanent residence permit or permanent residence card is submitted to the MOI office based on your address on the relevant application form.
EU citizens who are holder of a permanent residence permit and their family members who are holders of a permanent residence card are obliged to apply for an extension of the validity of these cards within 15 days of their expiration. Family members of EU nationals who are holders of the residence card or residence permit are obliged to apply for an extending of its validity before the expiration.
If a foreign national is prevented from applying for an extension of the card’s validity within the legally required period due to reasons outside of his/her control, he/she must apply for an extension of the card’s validity within 3 working days of these reasons ending. The foreign national must prove these reasons. If the application is not submitted within the legally required period and there is no obstacle that is outside of the foreign national’s control, the delay in submitting the application for extending the validity of the card will be judged as a violation and a fine can be imposed.
When submitting an application for extending the validity of a permanent residence permit issued to EU, the foreign national provides:
- a travel document,
- 2 photographs (only if there has been a change in appearance or a new card is to be issued),
- an application fee CZK 200,-.
A family member of an EU national who is a holder of the Permanent Residence Card or the Permanent Residence Permit (issued in the form biometric cards) and who is submitting the application for an extension of a validity of these cards is obliged to present an original of a valid passport and, concurrently, to pay an administrative fee CZK 200 in the form of stamps (kolek).
Pursuant to section 15a (1) and (2) of Act No 326/1999 Coll., a family member of an EU citizen is obliged to submit the following to support an application for extension of the validity of a residence card or temporary residence permit:
- a travel document,
- a document on medical insurance,
- a document on ensuring of accommodation,
- a document confirming that you are living on the territory of the CZ jointly with an EU citizen,
- an application fee CZK 200,-.
Pursuant to section 15a (3) of Act No 326/1999 Coll., a family member of an EU citizen is obliged to submit the following to support an application for extension of the validity of a residence permit:
- a travel document,
- a document on comprehensive medical insurance concluded with Pojišťovna VZP, a. s.,
- a document on ensuring of accommodation,
- a document confirming that you are living on the territory of the CZ jointly with an EU citizen,
- a document on family aggregate monthly income,
- an application fee CZK 200,-.
Family members of EU citizens, i.e., third-country nationals, will be issued a document containing biometric features. These foreign nationals are obliged to come to the ministry for the processing of data necessary for the issue of this document and then, at a time designated by the ministry, but within 60 days at the latest from the scanning of biometric data, to come to collect the document. Should any or all of these duties not be performed, the proceedings concerning the foreign national’s application will be suspended.
The application can be submitted on behalf of a foreign national by a different person on the basis of a power of attorney. The power of attorney must demonstrate that it was signed for this specific purpose. The signatures on the power of attorney do not have to be notarized. If the application is not filed by the foreign national in person and it is necessary to issue a new residence card, the foreign national will be invited to collect it in person. In the case of a third-country national, the foreigner will be asked to take biometric data.
