Payments of benefits

The CSSA pays sickness insurance benefits retroactively. Payment is made to a bank account or by bank slip to the address of place of residence. The method of payment is determined by the recipient of the benefit (with the exception of sickness benefit – for employees, sickness benefits are paid in the same way as wages / salary; for self-employed persons, they are paid to the same account from which they pay sickness insurance; for foreign employees, they are paid in the same way as insurance premiums).

Sickness insurance benefits are paid abroad only to the beneficiary’s account with a financial institution, at his or her own expense.

When changing the account number to which sickness insurance benefits are paid, the change must be notified in writing or in person to the competent DSSA. It is also necessary to notify the DSSA immediately of a change in the address for the payment of sickness benefits via a postal service.

If the insured person is unable to claim or receive a benefit due to his or her health condition or for other serious reasons, the DSSA may appoint another natural person as a special beneficiary.

Notice

In the event of a breach of obligations stipulated by law (e.g. in connection with a breach of the treatment regime), the following actions may be taken:

• the insured’s benefit may be temporarily reduced or withdrawn (only applies to sickness benefits);
• if the benefit has already been paid, it may be recovered as an overpayment;
• a fine may be imposed.

The insured persons or another entitled persons or beneficiary of the benefit is obliged to report to the DSSA all the facts decisive for the duration of the entitlement to the benefit, without undue delay. More about payments of benefits.
