Producer price indices - April 2011




In April 2011, compared with the previous month, agricultural and industrial producer prices grew by 0.8% both. Prices of market services increased by 1.2%. Construction work prices stayed unchanged.
In comparison to April 2010, agricultural and industrial producer prices were higher by 31.8% and 6.4%, respectively. Prices of market services were 1.1% up. Construction work prices decreased by 0.4%.

Monthly changes

Agricultural producer prices increased by 0.8% in total. Prices of crop products grew by 0.4%. Higher were prices of cereals (+0.9%), potatoes (+2.7%) and fruit (+8.2%). Prices of plant oils (-1.9%) and vegetables (-5.9%) fell. Prices of animal products increased by 1.4%, higher were prices of pigs for slaughter (+3.4%), eggs (+2.6%), poultry (+1.3%) and milk (+0.7%). In contrast, prices of cattle for slaughter decreased by 0.6%.

Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.8% (+1.0% in March). Prices went up the more significantly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+4.5%), ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+1.5%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+1.3%). Prices went down in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-1.9%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices stayed unchanged; construction material input prices decreased by 0.1%.

Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 1.2%, affected by a 11.5% growth of prices in advertising and market research services (+20.0% in TV and radio advertising services) and postal and courier services (+0.5%). Prices of architectural and engineering services and technical consultancy services, real service services and financial services, except insurance and pension funding decreased by 0.4%, 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively. Market services prices in total excluding advertising services decreased by 0.1%.

Annual changes

Agricultural producer prices were 31.8% up (+31.0% in March). This is the highest increase in history. Prices of crop products grew by 57.2%. Considerable increases were registered for prices of potatoes (+119.6%), cereals (+83.0%), plant oils (+56.0%) and fruit (+45.8%). Prices of animal products grew (+7.1%), due to higher price of milk (+15.1%). On the increase were prices of poultry (+9.2%) and cattle for slaughter (+2.8%). After two years prices of pigs for slaughter (+1.9%) increased. Prices of eggs were down (-26.3%). The considerable y-o-y growth was influenced particularly by lower comparative basis from the year of 2010.

Industrial producer prices gained 6.4% (+6.3% in March), which is the most since March 2005. Price level was markedly influenced by the price increase in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+26.5%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+13.2%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+8.1%). Price went down in ‘Computer, electronic and optical products’ (-2.8%) and ‘transport equipment’ (-2.7%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+10.0%), the decrease was recorded only in ‘capital goods’ (-0.2%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices were 0.4% down (the same as in March). Construction material input prices were 3.8% up (+3.9% in March).

Market services prices in the business sphere were 1.1% up (+0.5% in March). Increasing were especially prices in advertising and market research services (+7.0%). On the increase were prices of postal and courier services (+3.6%), freight transport (+2.3%) and financial services, except insurance and pension funding (+2.0%). Lower prices were recorded in rental and leasing services (-6.0%), insurance services (-2.4%) and telecommunication services (-0.8%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased by 0.3% in total (the same as in March).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – March 2011*

According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 1.0% in March (+0.8% in February), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in the United Kingdom (+3.0%), Denmark (+2.1%), Greece and Poland (+1.5% both). Prices rose in the Czech Republic (+1.0%), Germany and Slovakia (+0.4% both). For Austria, data are not available for March. There was none m-o-m decrease in the states of EU27.

EU27 producer prices rose by 7.4% in March (+7.1% in February), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in Bulgaria (+12.1%), the Netherlands (+10.8%) and the United Kingdom (+10.7%). Prices rose in Poland (+9.6%), the Czech Republic (+6.3%), Germany (+6.1%) and Slovakia (+3.3%). For Austria, data are not available for March. There was none y-o-y price decrease in the states of EU27.
