In April 2010 seasonally adjusted construction output increased by 4.8%, m-o-m, and decreased by 15.3%, in the year-on-year comparison. The planning and building control authorities granted by 3.6% less building permits, year-on-year. Approximate value of permitted constructions increased by 45.9%, year-on-year. The number of started dwellings increased by 1.6% and completed dwellings by 18.4%.

In April 2010 construction output decreased by 15.3% at constant prices, compared with April 2009. Seasonally adjusted construction output was 4.8% up in April 2010, m-o-m. Building construction output fell by 15.5% (contribution -10.5 p.p.) and the civil engineering output registered a decrease by 14.7% (contribution -4.8 p.p.).
The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50 or more employees dropped by 4.3% compared with April 2009. Their average monthly nominal wage decreased by 1.3% compared with April 2009 and reached CZK 30 404.
In April 2010 the number of building permits granted was down by 3.6%, y-o-y, the planning and building control authorities granted 9 130 building permits. 5 006 building permits were granted for new constructions (contribution -1.7 p.p., decrease by 3.1%) and 4 124 building permits for changes in completed constructions (contribution -1.9 p.p., decrease by 4.1%).
The approximate value of constructions permitted in April 2010 accounted for CZK 37.4 billion and compared to corresponding period in 2009 it raised by 45.9%. New constructions registered an increase in the approximate value of building permits up to CZK 24.8 billion (contribution +31.9 p.p., growth by 48.9%). Renewals and enhancements should produce constructions worth CZK 12.6 billion (contribution +14.0 p.p., growth by 40.2%). A marked growth in the approximate value of permitted constructions was a consequence of relatively low comparative base and permission of expensive constructions like transport infrastructure, manufacturing plants and photovoltaic power plants.
The number of dwellings started grew by 1.6% compared to April 2009 to reach 2 771 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in family houses dropped by 1.0%, y-o-y, (contribution -0.6 p.p.). The number of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings increased by 20.4% (contribution +4.2 p.p.), which was partially caused by low comparative base of April 2009 when the number of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings dropped by 50%.
The number of completed dwellings grew by 18,4 % compared to April 2009 and reached 2 891 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in family houses increased by 9.7 % (contribution +4.5 p.p.) and in multi-dwelling buildings the number increased by 0.8% (contribution +0.3 p.p.).

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA construction output in the EU 27 dropped by 2.4% in March 2010 compared with March 2009. Building construction decreased by 1.3% and civil engineering fell by 4.2%. The data for April 2010 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 a.m. on 17 June 2010.
