In September 2014 the construction output increased by 9.5% year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms. The planning and building control authorities granted by 4.5% less building permits, y-o-y, and the approximate value of permitted constructions dropped by 27.6%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings rose by 7.2%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings decreased by 6.7%, y-o-y.
In September 2014 the construction output increased by 9.5% year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms. The working day adjusted construction output in September 2014 was by 8.2% higher, y-o-y. September 2014 was by one working day longer compared to September 2013. The seasonally adjusted construction output in September 2014 was by 2.8% higher, month-on-month (m-o-m). The production in building construction increased by 5.3% (contribution +3.6 percentage points (p.p.)), y-o-y. The production of civil engineering construction grew by 19.2% (contribution +5.9 p.p.), y-o-y. Compared to the same period of 2008, the year of boom, the construction output dropped by 24.0% in the period from this year beginning to the end of September 2014.
The average registered number of employees * ), in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 3.3%, y-o-y, in September 2014. Their average gross monthly nominal wage increased by 6.2%, compared year-on-year, and reached CZK 30 586.
In September 2014 the number of building permits granted decreased by 4.5%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 7 305 building permits. The approximate value of the permitted constructions attained CZK 20.2 billion and dropped by 27.6% compared to the same period of 2013.
The number of dwellings started in September 2014 grew by 7.2%, y-o-y, and attained 1 957 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in family houses increased by 7.6% and that of dwellings started in multi-dwelling buildings grew by 20.5%.
The number of completed dwellings decreased by 6.7%, y-o-y, in September 2014 and was 2 271 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in family houses decreased by 0.9%. The number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings dropped by 9.0%.
According to Eurostat the WDA (working days adjusted) construction output in the EU28 decreased by 0.8%, y-o-y, in August 2014. Buildings increased by 0.4% and civil engineering works fell by 5.4%. According to the preliminary schedule Eurostat shall release the data for September 2014 on 19 November 2014 (at 11:00 a.m.).
Construction in Q3 2014
In Q3 2014 the construction output increased by 1.7%, y-o-y, in real terms. The working day adjusted construction output in Q3 2014 was by 1.3% higher, y-o-y. Q3 2014 was by one working day longer compared to Q3 2013. Compared to Q2 2014 the seasonally adjusted construction output was by 0.6% lower, quarter-on-quarter. The production in building construction decreased by 2.9% (contribution -2.0 p.p.), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction grew by 12.5% (contribution +3.7 p.p.), y-o-y.
The average registered number of employees * ) in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 3.6%, y-o-y in Q3 2014. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 3.3%, y-o-y and reached CZK 30 038.
In Q3 2014 the number of building orders of construction enterprises with 50+ employees increased by 3.7%, y-o-y; the enterprises received and concluded 11 964 orders in the Czech Republic. The total value of the orders jumped up by 33.2%, y-o-y and was CZK 56.5 billion. The building construction orders were for CZK 20.2 billion (growth by 8.4%) and those for civil engineering constructions were for CZK 36.3 billion (growth by 52.6%). The average value of a newly concluded construction order was CZK 4.7 million and was by 28.5% higher, y-o-y.
At the end of Q3 2014 construction enterprises with 50+ employees had 15.1 thousand orders contracted (growth by 20.4%) and these orders represented the inventory of still unimplemented construction works of the total value of CZK 178.0 billion (growth by 24.1%).
In Q3 2014 the number of building permits granted dropped by 3.0%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 22 066 building permits. The approximate value of constructions permitted in Q3 2014 accounted for CZK 64.0 billion and decreased by 7.6% compared to the same period of 2013.
The floor area of buildings permitted in Q3 2014 was 1 151.5 thousand m 2, which means a drop by 4.0% compared y-o-y. The floor area of permitted residential buildings increased by 0.8%, and that of non-residential buildings decreased by 9.9%.
The number of dwellings started in Q3 2014 grew by 7.4%, y-o-y and accounted for 6 417 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in family houses increased by 0.7%, and that in multi-dwelling buildings grew by 29.7%.
The number of completed dwellings in Q3 2014 increased by 2.2%, y-o-y and attained 6 288 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in family houses decreased by 2.0%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings grew by 8.6%.

*) The registered number of employees indicator does not include persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in construction also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, yet within activities of services (CZ-NACE 78.2) .
